Meet the Phillips Frith team – we’re a friendly
bunch of bean counters!
Every member of the Phillips Frith team is trained to the highest standards and we are proud to be a training office for students of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants.
Jane Webb, Ian Chalmers and Amy Sole are the Phillips Frith Limited Liability Partnership members and, alongside their team of Chartered Accountants, Registered Auditors and Administrators, they will take a personal interest in your business.
As one of our clients, these are the team members you will most likely speak to on a day-to-day basis:
-
Jane Webb FCCA
Jane is a Partner of the business and has been with Phillips Frith for over 35 years. She has lived in Cornwall all her life. Jane works with many of the firm’s charity and other more unusual audit and accounts clients where there are more complex rules to be followed.
“Many of my early working years with the firm were spent out of the office auditing the accounts of companies of all sizes. I have always therefore believed in seeing at first-hand how a client’s business operates so that I can give the best advice and this is true more than ever today.”
-
Ian Chalmers FCA
Ian originally trained and qualified as an accountant with a firm in Cambridgeshire going on to join Phillips Frith in 1981 after relocating to Cornwall. He is a Partner of the business.
“Nearly all of my clients are family-owned businesses, both large and small. Planning for tax saving has always been a large part of my work but advising this type of business has become more complex over the years, requiring a closer working relationship and an understanding of family dynamics.”
-
Amy Sole FCA
Amy became a partner in May 2020, having been with Phillips Frith since 2003 where she qualified as a chartered accountant in 2008. Amy is an audit and corporate specialist dealing with some of the firms largest clients. Outside of the office she is a keen runner and cyclist, regularly travelling to either compete in events or take on adventures nationally and even worldwide.
“I lead the Audit and Assurance department at the firm, working closely with a wide range of long-standing clients to deliver high quality audits that go beyond compliance. I also advise limited companies and sole traders, offering practical support tailored to their needs. It’s always rewarding to see our clients grow and thrive, and I’m proud to play a part in their ongoing progress.”
-
Andrew Prouse FCCA
Andrew has been with us for over 25 years and is our most senior member of staff. His work centres around the more complex aspects of personal taxation and assisting small businesses. He has a reputation for being approachable and down to earth.
“I recognise that the world of taxation and accounts can be intimidating, particularly for new businesses, and try to do all I can to demystify the process.”
-
Sarah Pope FCCA
Sarah has been with us for over 20 years. She specialises in work on solicitors accounts and spends much of her time visiting clients to assist them with a variety of work including more complex VAT and management accounts.
“Within my role at Phillips Frith I enjoy working with clients both in and out of the office. Getting to know them and understanding their business so that I can tailor my assistance to suit their specific needs.”
-
Pete Michael
Pete joined the firm in 1990 and is an invaluable assistant to Jane. He works on a range of corporate, personal and trust tax matters and has the unenviable task of keeping our tax and accounts software up to date.“Working in a constantly evolving digital environment is challenging but rewarding when we can make compliance processes quicker and easier for us and our clients.”
-
Anne Setchell MAAT
Anne joined us in 1998 straight after leaving college. She plays a key role in coordinating the accounts team and when she isn’t doing this, she is busy helping clients with their record keeping and management accounts.
“It is very important to me to make sure that all our clients feel immediately welcome at Phillips Frith. Building strong friendly relationships both here with our amazing accounts team and out with our clients is fundamental to getting the job done well.”
-
Gary Stocks AAT MATT
We were delighted to welcome Gary to the team in 2015. If there is a difficult piece of accountancy work to be completed then it will more often than not find its way onto Gary’s desk where his patience and sense of humour are his great assets!
“Clients are sometimes understandably confused by record keeping processes and accountancy concepts. The most satisfying part of my job is knowing that I have helped them and put them on the right track for the future.”
-
Dan Cocks FMAAT
Dan joined our firm in 2021 and has over 10 years of experience covering a variety of accounts work. He is also our go-to for software support – from training and answering questions, to helping you get the best out of your system.
“It’s easy to get overwhelmed at the thought of software, but it’s amazing how quickly you can pick it up once you get started – It’s great to see that moment when it all clicks.”
-
Josh Barden MAAT
Josh joined us in 2023, having previously worked at another local firm. A lot of his work revolves around our Xero clients, giving training to help them get the most out of their software.
“I really enjoy getting to know our clients and discussing issues without the jargon. Helping them to feel as though we are a part of their team rather than outsiders means we can build lasting relationships.”
-
Ross Schooley-Frame ACA CTA
Ross joined our team in 2019, bringing with him a strong foundation in accounting from his training in Truro. Since then, he has earned both his Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor qualifications. Ross enjoys a varied role, from managing personal tax matters to overseeing audits, providing comprehensive support to our clients.
“I enjoy helping clients find clarity in the challenges they face. Whether it’s guiding them through complex tax issues or offering practical business solutions, I find it rewarding to make a real difference. The challenges my work presents keep me engaged and always learning.”
-
Karen Morgan
Karen works within our Payroll Bureau here at Phillips Frith and will liaise closely with you on all aspects of your Payroll including employee tax codes, PAYE and National Insurance Contributions and of course the new pension auto-enrolment scheme.
“I understand how time consuming running your payroll each month can be and that’s why I’m here to help take as much of the stress away from you as possible. We work closely with you to ensure you comply with all the latest regulations and will help implement your own efficient payroll system to make life that little bit easier for you.”
-
Sharon Fountain
If you visit our offices here in St. Austell, Sharon will probably be the first person you meet or the first person you speak to on the phone. She has been the Phillips Frith receptionist since 2002.
“I really enjoy building a rapport with our clients and being the helpful, friendly voice that greets them. I look forward to talking to you soon and welcoming you to Phillips Frith.”
